MQ2 Crashing EQ -- I have tried everything I can think of
Every time I have tried using MQ2 the last 5 hours it has crashed EQ as soon as it begins to run.

I am using a Classic UnderFoot build and using it with the Underfoot Expansion. I also tried using the PEQ UnderFoot build as well. I had previously played EQ (years ago) and now tried to start back up again on the server. The MQ2 program had previously run flawlessly on both Titanium and Underfoot on a number of servers.

This is a list of the things I have tried:

I have tried starting MQ2 before I even click on the EQ Icon to play and after EQ starts/in the game.

When I start up MQ2 before EQ starts -- the game will let me get to the Character Selection Screen before it crashes. When I already have EQ going, it crashes as soon as I try to bring the EQ window to the forefront to play. I tried MQ2 on every account I use.

I tried removing all of the plugins to see if that was the issue. Still no luck.

I also tried using Titanium and that version of MQ2 and STILL no luck. The same issue happens before and after I start EQ.

I tried turning off my firewall -- I still have no luck.

I tried to do a fresh install of MQ2 and do all of the previous steps again and still no luck.

On a number of these attempts I had DebugSpew.log going -- here is what I have currently in the log file:

At this point, I've tried it on another computer and apparently its localized to this computer.

Knowing that, I attached a debugger to EQ and the error I get is a stack overflow.

TO combat this I once again tried using a fresh install of MQ2, using the other computers files, using a virtual drive for MQ2 separately and then for both EQ and MQ2 . . . I even tried increasing the page file size.

I am now at a loss words on how the hell I fix this!! I am putting this on the forums as a last resort.

EQ alone without MQ2 runs correctly, correct? You can log in, zone, kill things, buy from merchants, etc...

Are you using a fresh install of UF or is it your old working copy?

What server are you playing on?

What folder is EQ installed in?
What folder is MQ2 installed in?
What OS is running on the "MQ2 doesn't work" computer?
What OS is running on the "MQ2 does work" computer?

What is the build/assemble date of the MQ2 Classic UF package? Look for "Assembly Log.txt" in your MQ2 folder.

Do you run any other third party programs? WinEQ2, EQPlayNice, InnerSpace, ISBoxer, custom server launcher, etc.

Did you copy any files and/or settings from an old MQ2 install into your new install?

In addition to grumbles questions, can do a crash dump with the debugger and post it. If you can get the module addresses out of the stack I can try to trace it. It'll be after the holidays unless I get an excuse to sit at the PC without my wife murdering my face off.

Maybe just post your Assembly log.txt too.

I apologize for only getting back to you guys now. I ran into a bunch of stuff that I needed to do for family members and didn't even drive back into town till today to look at my desktop again and be able to answer your questions.

I'm using a fresh install of UF now -- I was using an old working copy before.

I tried to use MQ2 using my UF copy
My Family members copy
A fresh install

I was/am trying to play on EZ server

EQ is installed in C:\Everquest

MQ2 is installed in C:\Everquest\MQEmu_PEQ_Underfoot

Both are windows 7

Assemble Date: March 21, 2015, 6:27 pm
Client: Underfoot
Build: Classic

No, I don't use any other third party programs.

I used a fresh install MQ2 and still did not change the errors.

I didn't know if I should make a new post or simply edit the other one before anyone else replied but here is what I have tried in the last 24 hrs:

I tried another fresh install of MQ2 with a fresh install of UF -- still the same issues.

I tried to do disk error check -- still the same issues

My Computer has 0% Fragmentation (as it was when I initially made the post)

I even tried wiping any random bits of information left behind in the free space. Nothing has changed . . . still the same issues.

Sorry, I assumed you were familiar with them. It differs depending on the debugger, and I don't usually use one either so I struggle to remember the commands. I think the command is "k" or maybe "kb". Maybe you can just try both commands and post the output. The commands are listed here http://windbg.info/doc/1-common-cmds.html in section 15. After you crash you just type the command in and hit enter and it'll spam the output. The addresses would be nested in the middle of a bunch of spam, but they would look something like this:

Module addresses in stack:
-----------------------------------
eqgame.exe+346365
mq2autologin.dll+25848
mq2autologin.dll+49BD
mq2autologin.dll+26BE8
KERNEL32.DLL+17990
eqgame.exe+346365

I can use those hexadecimal addresses and cross reference the addresses of the modules in the plugin to make an educated guess of what's causing the crash.

Edit: I think that example output I posted may be from ISBoxer, not windbg. Just try "k" and "kb"

Read this too

http://mqemulator.net/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=429

That will help you narrow down which plugin is causing it, or if it's in mq2main. Then you can run without that plugin loaded so you can get back to playing until the issue is fixed.

Check, double check and triple check that your shortcuts and batch file commands point to the correct folder/installation.

Check, double check and triple check that your spell file and other server specific files are updated as per EZServer requirements. Required server specific files are more important than "fresh UF" files.

Crashing at character select is very common when there is an incorrect setting. The offending setting can be in EQ (video settings, etc) or in MQ2. MQ2 loads BEFORE char select so it's likely no MQ2 itself. Many plugins don't fully load until after a character is selected because that's when a class is chosen (see the many many posts of MQ2Melee crashing after char select). EQ itself doesn't do any heavy graphics stuff until after character select so an improper graphics setting might not crash until char select.

GvKm.dll caught my eye. A google search shows it pops up in a lot of crash reports. It could be malware. If it's legit, it's installed on a Gigabyte motherboard as part of their overclocking software. This dll has caused crashes in almost every game imaginable. Just look at the search results. Try running your computer without the OC software running.

One of the links also talks about DirectX 9.0c, which ISN'T installed on Win7 by default. If you haven't manually installed it yet, you'll need to because it's required by EQ.
